Terms of Service
Last updated: 5 July 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Lore Beholder (the "Service"), operated by Daniel Taylor trading as Lore Beholder, a sole trader in the United Kingdom and available at app.lorebeholder.com. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who we are
The Service is provided by Daniel Taylor trading as Lore Beholder, a sole trader in the United Kingdom ("we", "us", "our"). We operate a subscription platform for collaborative narrative play: world-building, campaign management, scene posts, and related writing tools for game masters and players.
Questions about these Terms: [email protected].
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you confirm that you have permission from a parent or guardian to use the Service and, where required, to enter into a paid subscription.
You must provide accurate registration information and keep your account credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
3. The Service
Lore Beholder provides tools for:
- Creating and managing narrative games, campaigns, and scenes
- Writing and sharing in-character and out-of-character posts within private groups
- Inviting players to join games
- Optional subscription plans for personal writing tools and game-master features
We may add, change, or remove features. We will try to give reasonable notice of material changes that affect paid features you rely on.
4. Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans ("Write", "Game Master", and related tiers) are billed on a recurring basis through our payment provider (Stripe, via Clerk Billing). Prices, trial length, and plan features are shown at checkout and on our pricing page.
- Trials: Where offered, free trials may require a valid payment method upfront. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, your subscription will convert to a paid plan and you will be charged at the then-current rate.
- Renewals: Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel through your account billing settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period unless stated otherwise.
- Taxes: Prices may exclude VAT or other taxes where applicable. Applicable taxes are calculated and collected at checkout where required by law (including UK and EU VAT rules).
- Refunds: Except where required by applicable consumer law (including the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013), fees are non-refundable once a billing period has started.
If your subscription lapses, we may restrict creation of new content or access to certain features while preserving your existing data subject to our retention policies and your Privacy Policy.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of content you create on the Service ("User Content"), including characters, scenes, posts, and lore. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, display, and process User Content solely to operate and improve the Service, enforce these Terms, and comply with law.
You agree that User Content you submit:
- Is yours to share, or you have the rights needed to post it
- Does not infringe anyone else's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights
- Complies with applicable law and these Terms
6. Fan works and third-party settings
The Service supports private collaborative play that may reference third-party fictional settings (for example, Star Trek, Star Wars, or Warhammer). Lore Beholder is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any rights holder of those settings.
You are solely responsible for ensuring your use of third-party names, characters, and settings complies with applicable fan-work policies, copyright law, and trademark law. We do not grant licences to third-party intellectual property. We may remove content or suspend accounts where we reasonably believe content infringes third-party rights or exposes us to legal risk.
To report copyright infringement, contact [email protected] with sufficient detail to identify the work and the allegedly infringing material.
7. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service to:
- Harass, threaten, abuse, or harm others
- Post unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or hateful content
- Distribute malware, spam, or attempt to disrupt or probe our systems
- Scrape, reverse engineer, or circumvent access controls except as permitted by law
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose
We may investigate violations and suspend or terminate accounts. Private games remain invite-only by default; you are responsible for who you invite and what is posted in your games.
8. Intellectual property
We own the Service, including its software, branding, and documentation (excluding User Content). You may not copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Service except as allowed by these Terms or applicable law.
9. Third-party services
The Service integrates with third parties including Clerk (authentication and billing), Stripe (payments), Postmark (email), and infrastructure providers. Your use of those services may be subject to their terms. We are not responsible for third-party services outside our reasonable control.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under UK law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or fraudulent misrepresentation.
11. Limitation of liability
Subject to section 10, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability to you for claims arising from or related to the Service in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid us in that period, or (b) £100, except where a higher limit is required by applicable law.
12. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users.
On termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by nature should survive (including content licences granted to us, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing law) will survive.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. For material changes affecting paid subscribers, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by email or in-app notice) where practicable. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance, except where your consent is required by law.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you are a consumer resident in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your country of residence, and nothing in these Terms affects your mandatory consumer rights under UK law.
